One voice behind the writing and performance

Tania Maria is credited as both writer and performer of ‘Fanatic.’ That shared authorship is the most useful place to begin: the musical idea and the performance that carries it arrive through the same artist, so the first question is how a personal point of view stays present across an extended track.1

HFI used the 44.1 kHz/16-bit version from No Comment, released by TKM Records in 1995. ‘Fanatic’ is the ninth of the album’s eleven tracks and runs for 8:30.1

Give the long form room

An eight-and-a-half-minute track asks for a different kind of attention from a quick demonstration cut. Begin without trying to name every sound. Follow the pace at which ideas arrive, leave and return, and notice which moments make the span feel smaller or larger than the clock suggests.1

On a second pass, shift between Tania Maria’s lead and the surrounding ensemble. The useful question is not whether every part stands apart at all times, but whether the performance can redirect your attention while keeping one musical journey intact.

Three possible paths between control and power

The SELekt playback chain used a Memory Player MP-32, MSB Cascade DAC, Halcro Equinox preamplifier, Halcro Eclipse monoblocks and Kharma Enigma Veyron 4D loudspeakers.

The adjacent Halcro stages are more than a preamplifier followed by power amplifiers. Halcro documents balanced, unbalanced and current connections on Equinox, with the Eclipse manual providing the corresponding input families. That makes the interface between control and power a configurable part of the pairing’s architecture.23

The seat HFI set out to share

HFI recorded the session at SELekt on 25 June 2026 with a matched pair of DPA-4011 microphones and a Zoom F8n Pro at 192 kHz/32-bit float. A laser distance meter was used to match the microphones’ distances from the loudspeakers at the position where the pair most closely captured the sound heard at the sweet spot.

Let the music lead and use the system map only when it helps you orient the sound. Headphones will make that perspective easiest to follow. Sit in the sweet spot and give ‘Fanatic’ the full stretch of time it asks for.
