A standard placed inside a social set

“My Baby Just Cares For Me” long predates this performance, but its role here is specific. Decca places the song third on The Capitol Studios Sessions and credits Haley Reinhart as a featured singer. Instead of arriving as an isolated recital piece, the standard enters an album shaped around guests, a band and a live audience.12

Goldblum recalled that producer Larry Klein proposed recreating the atmosphere of the band’s regular Rockwell shows over two nights. That origin changes the listening question. Follow not only the tune, but the way a singer, pianist and ensemble make room for one another while an audience remains part of the event.12

HFI used the 96 kHz/24-bit edition of The Capitol Studios Sessions, released by Decca on 9 November 2018. Gus Kahn and Walter Donaldson wrote the song; this performance brings together Reinhart, Goldblum and the Mildred Snitzer Orchestra.1

Four isolated zones inside the digital stage

The playback chain used a CH Precision X1 external power supply, T1 10 MHz time reference, C10 digital-to-analog converter, L1 line stage and M1.1 power amplifiers before the Göbel Divin Noblesse loudspeakers.

CH Precision describes the C10 as a two-piece converter whose power supply occupies a separate enclosure. Its 10-Series documentation says eleven DC feeds supply four galvanically isolated zones inside the audio chassis: digital, clock and the two DAC channels. It also places the input cards centrally, with the DAC sections on either side and matched clock paths.3

That architecture supplies a map of the digital stage. The musical map is different: keep Reinhart’s line, Goldblum’s piano replies and the orchestra’s punctuation in view as attention moves among them. The passage lets the listener follow several performers sharing one familiar song.12

The KD Sound perspective

HFI recorded the system at KD Sound in Seoul on 4 March 2025. A matched pair of DPA-4011 microphones fed a Zoom F8n Pro at 192 kHz/32-bit float. HFI positioned the pair where those microphones most closely captured the sound heard at the sweet spot and used a laser distance meter to match their distances from the loudspeakers.

Begin with the whole performance before narrowing your attention. On a second pass, follow the changes of role: the vocal carrying the lyric, the piano answering or redirecting it, and the band keeping the exchange open. Notice how each return to the melody can feel familiar while the person holding the foreground changes.12

Sit with the conversation

A durable standard leaves room for another personality without losing its shape. Set a comfortable headphone level, sit in your own sweet spot, and let Reinhart, Goldblum and the band unfold the conversation before deciding which detail matters most.12
