Called back by a title cue: Main Titles at GLV

One composer, a larger studio team

“Main Titles (You’ve Been Called Back to Top Gun)” is the first track on the Top Gun: Maverick soundtrack, and its credits make the idea of return more interesting than a single familiar name. Apple Music identifies Harold Faltermeyer as composer. Faltermeyer, Hans Zimmer and Lorne Balfe are credited with programming; Zimmer and Balfe produced the track; and Lexii Lynn Frazier and Stuart Michael Thomas played electric guitar. The composition has one credited origin, while the recording reaches us through a larger studio team.¹³

For a focused first pass, let the two-and-a-half-minute cue run without turning it into a system checklist. On the next, keep the credited roles in view: follow the programmed material and the electric-guitar parts as contributions to the same compact arc. That shift from a famous title to particular musical jobs is where the track becomes worth revisiting.¹³

Five drivers, three frequency roles

A Melco S1 network switch served the Aurender MC10 master clock and N50 digital-output network transport. The N50 fed an MSB Technology The Select DAC, followed by M500 monoblock power amplifiers and YG Acoustics Sonja 3.3 loudspeakers.

YG Acoustics describes the Sonja 3.3 as a passive three-way floorstander with one Lattice hybrid tweeter, two 15 cm aluminium-cone midrange drivers and two 26 cm aluminium-cone bass drivers. The published crossover points are 90 Hz and 1.85 kHz. Those three frequency roles give a concrete map for a second listen: choose one programmed or guitar line, then notice how its register and place within the cue change over time.⁴

Take the listening chair at GLV

HFI recorded the system at GLV in Seoul on 26 March 2025. A matched pair of DPA-4011 microphones fed a Zoom F8n Pro at 192 kHz/32-bit float. A laser distance meter matched the microphones’ distances from the loudspeakers at the position where that pair most closely captured the sound heard at the sweet spot.

Sit in the sweet spot with headphones at a comfortable level. Let the title cue call you back once for the music itself, then return with one credited part in mind and follow it all the way through.¹³
